The one exciting thing about my job is introducing the fashion faces of tomorrow, the new models that are destined for stardom and all can be said for Swiss newcomer Janusz Kuhlmann. I found him where Reflex finds all new things, Instagram, back in the summer of last year. Back then he had a blonde buzz cut, and not much work out but something about him struck me so I followed him knowing very little people garnered a reaction from me like that at first sight. Come the Fall 18 Men’s Collections in January, I was seeing Janusz all over the runways of Milan and Paris, walking for houses as big as Dior, Versace and Balmain. Having just learnt of Janusz in the calm before the storm, I was even more intrigued than before to know more about him, so I chased him up for a Reflex Homme exclusive interview.
What’s your full name?
My full name is Janusz Leonidas Kuhlmann
Where are you from?
I'm from Switzerland. My mother is Swiss and my father German.
How did you get into the modelling industry?
I got scouted on Instagram. That was very surprising because I never thought to contact a model agency but anyway I went to the agency and I got a contract directly.
Do you remember your first ever modelling job?
Yes, sure! it was the Mode Suisse Edition 11 in Zürich. Mode Suisse is one of the biggest swiss fashion show in which designers from Switzerland can show their new collection.
This season you walked for Versace, Balmain and Dior Homme, some of the biggest fashion houses around, how did it feel?
Of course very good! It was incredible that my first show was for Versace. Many many thanks to all the designers, casting teams and agencies who made this possible. I'm so thankful for that.
Out of all the jobs you’ve done what has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
The Versace show in Milan, because it was my first show and one of the biggest in Milan. It was also sick to meet the rapper 2Chainz backstage!
What would be your dream model job?
My dream is to make a campaign this year, cause that is one of the biggest things that you can do as a model.
What’s your favourite thing to do on your days off?
On my free days, I like to relax, meet friends, watch movies or play football.
Name something you couldn’t live without?
My phone and my music. I always need my phone to check public transport connections, social media and other stuff. I hear my music every morning and of course when I'm on the plane or in public transport.
Where would you like to be in 5 years?
I would like to be one of the 50 top male models, living in a city and being a happy, friendly and healthy person.
