REFLEX BEST 10 MALE MODELS OF 2017

January 2, 2018

Words by Collen Demerez @kaliforniabaeby

2017 marked a significant and progressive time in fashion. Upon the countless editorials, luxurious campaigns and grand catwalks, we had to take time to acknowledge the front faces of them all,  we are of course talking about the models. We have seen so many new and exciting faces featured in some amazing projects this passing year. With so many impressive model portfolio’s, we had to concentrate on the faces that left a lasting impression on us. We composed a list of the 10 best faces of 2017, these faces are not only the faces that ruled 2017, but that we predict to be even bigger in this new year.

10- Jordy Gerritsma @jordygerritsma

Jordy Gerritsma is fashion's new edgy boy, with his buzzcut and rebel teen looks he has been getting attention from all the right people. Jordy kept busy doing Fall/Winter 2017 campaigns for Diesel Black Gold and Ports 1961, while also being featured in magazines like Vogue Netherlands, Vogue Russia, ODDA and DSECTION. We saw Jordy on the runways of Paris, London and Milan all throughout the fashion seasons, walking for brands like Versus, Rick Owens, Y-3, ACNE Studios, Frankie Morello and KTZ. With all the buzz he’s been getting, 2018 is bound to be an amazing year for him.

9- Parker Van Noord @parkervannoord

Each year it seems we get our fair share of legacies come to claim their throne, Parker is certainly amongst those few lucky kids that have supermodel genes. Son of Andre van Noord, Parker is nothing short of a superstar himself, with looks no one can deny were meant for billboards. Though it isn’t his first year modelling, we saw a lot more of him this year than we had before. This year Parker walked in the DSquared2 FW17 and Isabel Marant SS18 shows, while also appearing on the cover of Vogue Netherlands Man and starring in the Carolina Herrera Eyewear campaign. This guy is built for longevity and if his father’s career is anything to go off, Parker will be around for a long time.

8- Alton Mason Jr. @altonmason

Everybody knows Alton as the ‘Gucci Boy’ and rightly so, as since his first Gucci show nobody has been able to stop talking about him. This has really been Alton’s year, we have seen him everywhere and we have to say we can’t get enough. 2017 saw Alton working with brands like Hugo Boss, Topman, Telfar and Pull & Bear, he also managed to appear in editorials for GQ, CR Fashion Book, VMAN, ID, Paper Magazine and the holy grail, American Vogue for their December issue cover story. This Gucci boy is dancing all the way to the top and 2018 is going to be an even better year for him if he keeps this up.

7- Abdulaye Niang @abdulayeniang

Abdulaye Niang is someone that we felt didn’t get enough credit this year for the portfolio he garnered. Abdulaye was one of those faces that we kept seeing in all the hottest catwalks this year, whether it was Louis Vuitton, J.W. Anderson, Lanvin SS18, Fendi SS18, PORTS 1961 SS18, Coach SS18 or Tommy Hilfiger FW17, he was in the midst sporting his short dreads and rocking every look to perfection. The young model was picked as one of the models for Gucci’s (all black cast) Pre-Fall 17 Advertising Campaign and also featured in lookbooks for Guess Japan and Opening Ceremony. With Abdulaye’s ability to make any brand look street cool, he is certainly going to have designers fighting to work with him all throughout 2018.

6- Presley Gerber @presleygerber

Another legacy that falls on this list is none other than the son of infamous original supermodel, Cindy Crawford. Presley Gerber showed us the true definition of the phrase “I got it from my mama”, the boy is a modelling icon in the making. The 18-year-old opened the year walking for Dolce and Gabbana and starring in their SS18 and Eyewear campaign.  That was only the beginning it seemed because come the SS18 shows we spotted him in every major show, including Moschino, Philipp Plein, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry and Ralph Lauren. To top it off he also appeared in the Balmain FW17 show and FW17 campaign. If even Olivier Rousteing is pairing him alongside some of our favourite models like Marlon Teixeira, Ton Heukels and Jon Kortajarena, then it’s safe to say that Presley will be on our personal faves list indefinitely.

5- Valentine Rontez @x.valentine

Valentine Rontez had an amazing year for someone in their second year of modelling. After walking the Calvin Klein show back in 2016 for his first job, we knew we had to keep our eye out for him. This year he proved that he is certainly capable of being the next big model, starring in Tom Ford’s Spring Summer 2017 campaign and Versace’s Fall Winter 17 Campaign. The model also walked for the likes of Plein Sport, Moschino and Fenty X Puma, and featured in editorials for W Mag and GQ Style. We have no clue what’s next for Valentine but from the moves he's been making we know it will be something big.

4- Francisco Henriques @kikohenriiques

Newcomer Francisco is one of our current obsessions and one of the strongest new faces in fashion right now.  Francisco had a remarkable year walking in the FW17 and SS18 shows for the likes of Hermes, Billionaire, Miguel Vieira, Armani and Balmain. He also became the face of Paco Rabanne PURE XS Fragrance (which was arguably one of the best fragrance commercials this year) and sealed the year with a FW17 Campaign for Gap. Everyone should learn the name Francisco Henriques because we have a hunch he’s going to be one of the leading faces of this coming year and your new #MCM.

3- Noah Brown @noahlbrown

Noah makes us think of those Tumblr images that are dug up from the archives, yet you can never tell if it’s from the past or somewhere deep in the future. Noah, to us, reflects the times more than anyone else on this list. We are placing him this high on the list not entirely for his 2017 work but also his pre-released work for 2018. Not only did Noah manage to book the LV FW17 show as his first job altogether, he also appeared in the Louis Vuttion FW17 campaign. Now, Noah is set to have an even bigger year in 2018, starring in the Versace & Louis Vuitton SS18 Campaigns both shot by the legendary Steven Meisel. This half Cuban stunner has all the qualities of all the legendary male supermodels and his multi-ethnic features make us believe that he is someone that will be relevant in fashion even past his years.

2- Jegor Venned @jegorvenned

Jegor Venned is the Eddie Campbell of the men’s fashion, in that we mean no one ever seems to really talk about him as much as they should, yet he is still one of the leading male models of the moment. Jegor appeared in Givenchy SS17 Campaign earlier this year and starred in both Mango’s & Emporio Armani’s F/W17 campaigns. If that wasn’t enough for him to sit out the rest of the year, Jegor also scored 3 TOM FORD projects, appearing not only in the Tom Ford F/W17 Campaign and Lookbook but also being featured in the Tom Ford 'Boys & Girls' Beauty campaign. Jegor is no question playing in the big leagues and clearly leaving an impression on the industry, we have no hesitation in stating that he will continue to book major jobs like this in 2018.

1- Kit Butler @kitbutlerr

Throughout this year there has been only one name and one face that has appeared more than any other, and who else would that be than Kit Butler. Kit effortlessly topped everyone this year and was undoubtedly the champion of 2017. The English model was booked for over 36 shows this year, including Cerruti 1881, Ralph Lauren, Ami, Missoni, Balmain and Les Hommes just to name a few. If that doesn’t impress you, Kit bagged an astonishing total of 17 advertising campaigns in the space of 12 months, (which we must add is virtually unheard of for a male model) the highlights being the Burberry September Campaign, Emporio Armani S/S 17 Campaign, Bally SS17 Campaign, Hugo Boss SS17 Campaign, Mango SS17 & FW17 Campaigns, Salvatore Ferragamo F/W 2017 Campaign, Dsquared2 FW17 Campaign, Cerruti 1881 Fall 17 Campaign and the more recent Ralph Lauren Holiday Campaign. Kit didn’t stop there either, as you can also see him in lookbooks for H&M, Pull & Bear and Tommy Hilfiger. As you can see Kit is more than deserving of the number one spot and as he had our attention consistently from the start to finish of 2017, we expect him to do the same for 2018.
